The Death of the “Citizen Legislature” Takes Hold in New York as NYS Democrats Vote to Install Career Politicians, & Increase Their Part-time Salaries to a Whopping $142,000!
All this while New Yorkers struggle to pay bills!
This is the very-real danger of one-party-rule.
While we were all busy preparing for and celebrating the Holidays last week, the Democrats (who hold a super-majority in Albany) sneakily rammed through a bill that not only gave themselves a 30% pay raise, but also made it virtually impossible for legislators to have a “regular” job outside their part-time legislator job!
Why is this bad for New Yorkers?
Because now the NYS Legislators will be insulated from the effects of their own laws on the regular citizen, and they will care only about winning their next election so they can remain in power, which means they will bend to the will of those financing their campaigns (ie. special interest groups and their party leaders).
